Delay Repay with East Midlands Railway
East Midlands Railway pays Delay Repay when an EMR train is cancelled or gets you to your final destination 15 minutes or more late, including when it makes you miss another company's train. EMR must receive your claim within 28 days.
At a glance
- Pays from: 15 minutes late at your final destination, or a cancellation.
- Claim within: 28 days. EMR must receive the claim by then.
- Where: eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk, Delay Repay, online, or a paper form by post. Tickets bought elsewhere are claimed here too if EMR caused the delay.
How much
| Late by | Single | Return | Season ticket |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 to 29 minutes | 25% | 12.5% | 25% of one journey |
| 30 to 59 minutes | 50% | 25% | 50% of one journey |
| 60 to 119 minutes | 100% | 50% | 100% of one journey |
| 2 hours or more | 100% | 100% | Two journeys |
Singles and returns are a share of the whole ticket price. EMR gives seasons as a divisor for each band: a weekly is divided by 40, 20, 10 or 5, a monthly by 160, 80, 40 or 20, and an annual by 1,856, 928, 464 or 232. That is the same as the season column above, taking one journey as a tenth of a weekly.
How to claim
Online, one journey per claim. An account saves your details, your season ticket and how you like to be paid. The paper form, from EMR's site or a station, takes up to five journeys at once. If you got something wrong, do not claim again: open the claim on EMR's portal or call 03457 125 678.
What to upload
- A photo of the ticket itself, not the reservation or receipt. Cut it in half or deface it first unless it is still in use, like a season. JPEG, TIF, PNG or GIF under 2MB.
- Every ticket for the journey, and the whole journey from start to final destination, even the parts that were not EMR or not late.
- An eTicket you can no longer open: the PDF emailed when you bought it. An sTicket: the code on the coupon, plus a photo of the booking confirmation showing the price. Screenshots are not accepted.
- No ticket at all: EMR may accept the booking confirmation or receipt, once.
How you are paid
Bank transfer, debit or credit card, or PayPal. For PayPal, the email on the claim must match your PayPal account.
Cancelled trains and missed connections
A cancellation, or an EMR delay that makes you miss a connection with any company, counts if you arrive 15 minutes or more late. Only one claim per journey, to the company that caused the first delay. If that was not EMR, EMR forwards the claim.
If you decide not to travel, ask for a refund where you bought the ticket.
Worth knowing
- At a ticket barrier with a paper ticket, ask staff to let you through so you keep it.
- If you knew about the delay before you bought the ticket, such as a timetable change for engineering, you are unlikely to be paid.
- To appeal, open the claim on EMR's portal with its reference, which starts EMR/DR, and your email.
Platted keeps the record for you
Platted keeps every journey you take with it for 13 months, with what a claim form asks for: the date, the stations, the booked and actual times, how late, why, and the operator. Each one copies with a tap. When a train arrives late enough to claim, Platted tells you once, then once more a week before the window shuts.
You claim on the operator's own site. Platted does not claim for you, sends the operator nothing and takes nothing from what you are paid.
