Delay Repay with Chiltern Railways

Chiltern Railways calls its scheme Delay Repay 15: it pays when a Chiltern train is delayed or cancelled and you arrive 15 minutes or more late. You claim on Chiltern's own site within 28 days of travel.

At a glance

  • Pays from: 15 minutes late at your destination.
  • Claim within: 28 days of travel.
  • Where: chilternrailways.co.uk, compensation, online, or a paper form posted to Freepost CHILTERN RAILWAYS or handed in at a ticket office.

How much

Singles and returns are a share of the whole ticket price. For seasons, one journey is the price divided by 10 for a weekly, 16 for a flexi, 40 for a monthly, 120 for a quarterly and 464 for an annual.

How to claim

Online through Chiltern's compensation page. An account saves your details, and if you travel on a smartcard registered to your Delay Repay account, Chiltern can alert you when you can claim. Or download the form, or collect one at a staffed station, and post it with your tickets to Freepost CHILTERN RAILWAYS, or hand it in. One paper form covers two claims. For help, call 03456 005165.

What the form asks for

Bank transfer, card payment, rail travel vouchers, or a donation to the Literacy Trust.

Cancelled trains and missed connections

If another company's train caused the first delay, claim from that company. Chiltern only handles delays on its own trains, and forwards claims sent to it by mistake. With a combination of tickets for one journey, the whole journey is compensated.

After a do not travel warning, singles and returns get a full refund where you bought them, and season holders can claim up to a day's value.

Worth knowing

Platted keeps the record for you

Platted keeps every journey you take with it for 13 months, with what a claim form asks for: the date, the stations, the booked and actual times, how late, why, and the operator. Each one copies with a tap. When a train arrives late enough to claim, Platted tells you once, then once more a week before the window shuts.

You claim on the operator's own site. Platted does not claim for you, sends the operator nothing and takes nothing from what you are paid.
