Delay Repay with West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern
West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway are one company, West Midlands Trains, with one Delay Repay scheme. It pays when you arrive at your destination at least 15 minutes late, and you claim within 28 days of travel.
At a glance
- Pays from: 15 minutes late at your destination.
- Claim within: 28 days of your travel date.
- Where: westmidlandsrailway.co.uk, Delay Repay, online, or by post to Freepost WEST MIDLANDS RAIL DELAY REPAY. London Northwestern has its own claim form with the same rules.
- One click: Advance singles bought in your WMR or LNR account.
How much
| Late by | Single | Return | Season ticket |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 to 29 minutes | 25% | 12.5% | 12.5% of a day |
| 30 to 59 minutes | 50% | 25% | 25% of a day |
| 60 to 119 minutes | 100% | 50% | 50% of a day |
| 2 hours or more | 100% | 100% | 100% of a day |
Singles and returns, Swift included, are a share of the whole ticket price. Seasons are paid on a day's travel, one return journey per working day: the price divided by 5 for a weekly, 20 for a monthly, 232 for an annual, and 8 for a flexi season. That works out the same as a quarter of one journey from 15 minutes.
How to claim
Online is easiest. An account is optional and saves a season ticket. Or post the form from the website or a staffed station, with your ticket, to Freepost WEST MIDLANDS RAIL DELAY REPAY. Customer Relations is on 0333 311 0039.
Enter the journey you planned, even if a cancellation put you on a different train. For a return, claim only the half that was late.
What the form asks for
- A QR ticket: a photo or screenshot and its ticket number (UTN). A collection reference: the 8 digit code.
- A smartcard or Swift card: its number and the ticket price.
- A paper ticket: a photo of the ticket, not the reservation or receipt, with its number and price. Cut singles, returns and day travelcards in half or draw a line through them first. Do not deface a season.
- Receipts and booking emails are accepted only if the ticket number shows.
How you are paid
Credit or debit card, bank transfer, PayPal, National Rail vouchers, or a donation to charity. Payment arrives within 14 days of the decision.
One-click Delay Repay
Advance singles bought on the WMR or LNR app or website through your account get an email the day after a 15 minute delay. The link fills in and submits the claim. Other tickets, and tickets bought elsewhere, are claimed the usual way.
Cancelled trains and missed connections
If your train is cancelled you can take an Avanti West Coast, Chiltern, CrossCountry or GWR train going the same way within two hours at no extra cost, unless the change was planned and advertised. Or ask for a full refund where you bought the ticket.
One claim per journey, to the company that caused the first delay or made you miss a connection, even if you bought the ticket from WMR.
Worth knowing
- Compensation is not usually paid during planned engineering or when replacement buses run, because lateness is measured against the advertised timetable.
- Flexi season: you can claim if you activated a day and were delayed 15 minutes or more.
- Appeals within a month, from Check my claim status online, or through Customer Relations for postal claims.
- Taxis, hotels and refreshments after a long delay go to Customer Relations, case by case.
Platted keeps the record for you
Platted keeps every journey you take with it for 13 months, with what a claim form asks for: the date, the stations, the booked and actual times, how late, why, and the operator. Each one copies with a tap. When a train arrives late enough to claim, Platted tells you once, then once more a week before the window shuts.
You claim on the operator's own site. Platted does not claim for you, sends the operator nothing and takes nothing from what you are paid.
