Delay Repay with TransPennine Express

TransPennine Express pays Delay Repay when you reach your destination 15 minutes or more late. You claim on TPE's own site within 28 days of the journey, and TPE Advance tickets bought direct can be claimed for you.

At a glance

  • Pays from: 15 minutes late at your destination.
  • Claim within: 28 days of the journey date.
  • Where: tpexpress.co.uk, Delay Repay, online, in TPE's app with an account, or by post to FREEPOST TRANSPENNINE EXPRESS.
  • Automatic: Automated Delay Repay for TPE Advance tickets bought from TPE, once you opt in.

How much

The return column is a share of the whole return fare, which TPE also describes as the same rate on the half you were delayed on. For seasons, one journey is a tenth of a weekly, a fortieth of a monthly, 1/120th of a quarterly and 1/464th of an annual; TPE's charter adds 16 for a flexi season.

How to claim

Claim online and attach your tickets, a screenshot or scan will do. Registering is optional; it saves your details and lets you claim in TPE's app, and season holders can save a photo of their ticket. Paper forms are on TPE's site and at stations; post the form with your tickets. Postal claims take longer.

The form wants the date, stations, any changes, the booked and actual times, how late you were and why. With a combination of tickets, send them all.

Back to how you paid, unless you choose otherwise: debit or credit card, cheque, National Rail Travel Vouchers or a TPE e-voucher.

Automated Delay Repay

TPE Advance tickets bought on TPE's website or app, for a whole journey on TPE, qualify. Open a Delay Repay account with the same email you buy tickets with and opt in to the emails. A claim is made within 2 to 3 days of travel and paid in about 3 working days to how you paid. If another company's train was late first, claim from them.

Cancelled trains and missed connections

If your train was cancelled, TPE works out the next train you could have caught. If a booked TPE train is cancelled, you can use any TPE, Northern or LNER train in the two hours either side. If you did not travel, ask for a full refund.

If part of the journey was with another company, TPE pays if it caused the delay, and otherwise asks that company to contact you.

Worth knowing

Platted keeps the record for you

Platted keeps every journey you take with it for 13 months, with what a claim form asks for: the date, the stations, the booked and actual times, how late, why, and the operator. Each one copies with a tap. When a train arrives late enough to claim, Platted tells you once, then once more a week before the window shuts.

You claim on the operator's own site. Platted does not claim for you, sends the operator nothing and takes nothing from what you are paid.
