Compensation for delays with Grand Central
Grand Central does not use Delay Repay. Its own Charter Compensation starts at 60 minutes late, later than any other operator, and then pays more steps up to the whole fare. Claim within 28 days of finishing your journey.
At a glance
- Pays from: 60 minutes late.
- Claim within: 28 days of completing your journey.

How to claim
The claim site lets you claim without registering. An account keeps your details and shows each claim's progress. Choose the whole journey you meant to make, as your ticket shows it, not the one you ended up taking.
By post, send the PDF form to Customer Relations Manager, Grand Central Rail, Ground Floor, Wakefield Kirkgate Station, Monk Street, Wakefield WF1 4EL. Grand Central says not to use the Sheffield address printed on older forms. For help, call 0345 603 4852.
What the form asks for
- A clear photo or scan of the ticket, as JPEG or PDF. A mobile ticket must show the price, or add the booking confirmation.
- Paper seasons: the ticket and the photocard. Smartcards: the card number and a print-out of touch in, touch out and cost.
- The stations, date and time, ticket type and cost, and anyone else you are claiming for.
How you are paid
PayPal, bank transfer, or a free Grand Central single if your journey started or ended at London King's Cross. Most claims are settled within 10 working days.
Cancelled trains
If your train was cancelled and you did not travel, ask for a refund where you bought the ticket. Advance tickets can be refunded in full if the train was cancelled or changed and you chose not to go.
Worth knowing
- Claims are not normally accepted if you knew about the delay before you bought the ticket and still travelled.
- During an emergency timetable, lateness is measured against it.
Platted keeps the record for you
Platted keeps every journey you take with it for 13 months, with what a claim form asks for: the date, the stations, the booked and actual times, how late, why, and the operator. Each one copies with a tap. When a train arrives late enough to claim, Platted tells you once, then once more a week before the window shuts.
You claim on the operator's own site. Platted does not claim for you, sends the operator nothing and takes nothing from what you are paid.
